Her story
Her care was more than her family could manage.
Delores was recently surrendered to Rooted In Love Rescue when her owner’s family could no longer meet her care needs. Once she arrived, we discovered just how poor her physical condition had become.
In her eight years of life, Delores had never had a hoof trim. Years of severely overgrown hooves had taken a devastating toll. She was diagnosed with hip dysplasia, with damage to her hips and spine linked to the long-term hoof overgrowth.
She also had a deep, serious infection between her toes that had gone untreated. It was so severe that her dewclaw sloughed off while she was at the veterinarian’s office.
Despite aggressive antibiotic treatment and the combined efforts of her veterinary and rescue care teams, the infection has persisted. We are continuing to work to help her, keep her comfortable, and save her.
This is the reality of what happened to Delores. We will keep fighting for her—and we cannot do it alone.
