Meet Leonardo, an 8–9 year old neutered male mini pig with a friendly personality and a naturally curious spirit. Leonardo is the kind of pig who enjoys being around people and likes to see what’s going on around him. Whether he’s exploring his surroundings or coming over to say hello, his gentle and social nature makes him a wonderful piggy companion.
Leonardo’s story, unfortunately, didn’t start out easy. He was found abandoned in a vacant home in Flint, Michigan, left alone in a room filled with his own fecal matter and urine. It was a heartbreaking situation. Despite everything he went through, Leonardo has shown incredible resilience. He hasn’t let his past define him and continues to greet the world with a friendly attitude and a willingness to trust again.
Since being rescued, Leonardo has been given the care and attention he always deserved and he has been doing great. One of his biggest accomplishments has been his weight-loss journey. With proper nutrition, routine and care, Leonardo has been steadily slimming down and is doing extremely well. He still has goals to reach, but he’s already made wonderful progress and continues to improve every day.
Like many pigs, Leonardo is highly food-motivated, he absolutely loves snacks and will happily come over when he thinks a treat might be involved. In addition to treats, he also enjoys getting scratches and attention, which is a great way to bond with him and build trust.
RILR aims to place rescued animals in safe, approved homes whenever it is medically and physically safe to do so. However, if an animal at risk cannot be safely rehomed, they will reside in our sanctuary building and pastures.
