Meet Maui, a 22-23-year-old, 15.1-2hh Quarter Horse gelding with sweet soft eyes and has a gentle spirit! Maui has a puppy-dog-like personality and thrives on love, attention and affection, whether it’s pets, scratches, or treats. This sweet old guy would be happiest in a home where he can relax and enjoy the rest of his life as a pasture pet or companion for another equine.
Maui is low in the herd hierarchy and gets along well with both geldings and mares. He doesn’t like to be alone however and become anxious if he’s housed in a pasture alone. He is well-mannered and stands tied, enjoys being bathed and brushed, leads easily, lunges, and is broke for light riding. Due to arthritis and stiffness, particularly in his front knees, Maui would require pain relief before any work or riding. Light riding with a lighter rider is recommended for him due to the arthritis. He would make a wonderful trail horse for small trail rides for pretty much anyone, however, he would benefit from a small refresher as he has been sitting in pasture for the past year.
Maui thrives in a 24/7 pasture setting with minimal stall time. During the colder months, he can be a bit of a hard keeper, so a cozy jacket is recommended to keep this sweet old guy comfortable. Maui stands patiently and wonderfully for anyone to put his blanket or jacket on, making it easy to ensure he stays warm and happy!
